Andy Cole has snubbed a number of Manchester United legends after naming Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler the ‘best finisher he’s ever seen’.

Cole, 53, knows a thing or two about the art of finishing, given he currently ranks as the fourth-highest scorer in the history of the Premier League.

The former United striker feels there was no-one better than Fowler, who scored a total of 183 goals in 369 games for the Red Devils’ biggest rivals.

Fowler is the ninth-highest scorer in Premier League history at this moment in time, behind the likes of United legend Wayne Rooney.

Cole, speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, said: ‘Oh, I loved Robbie, you know. Robbie is the best finisher I’ve seen.

‘I’m [being] honest. I’ve seen Robbie, obviously, then I’ve played with him, I’ve seen Robbie [when] we used to go away with England do some craziness.

‘When you’re away with England, you go away and watch people. I’m saying because left or right foot, head, brave… I used to sit and watch him.

‘His left foot was a wand as well. Robbie was one of the best finishers I’ve seen – English finisher.’

Fowler, 49, helped Liverpool win the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Europa League and Super Cup during his time at Anfield.

The ex-Reds striker started his career at Liverpool in 1984 – progressing through their academy – and spent 17 years at the club before he joined Leeds United in 2001.

After a spell with Leeds and then Manchester City, Fowler had a second stint at Liverpool in the 2006-07 season.

He later played for Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers before featuring for Australian clubs North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.

Fowler, who earned 26 caps for England, hung up his boots after the 2011-12 campaign in which he played for Muangthong United in Thailand.

Meanwhile, Fowler labelled Gary Neville ‘disrespectful’ last month for comments the former United defender made about him on The Overlap.

Neville said: ‘Can I make a controversial statement? Might not even be controversial.

‘Robbie Fowler could have been England’s greatest ever goalscorer, if he hadn’t of grown up in that Liverpool team.’

Neville went on to suggest that Fowler would’ve clinched many more trophies in his career had he been playing for United instead of Liverpool.

‘I mean, that’s disrespectful,’ Fowler told talkSPORT. ‘In fact, we were probably close to matching Manchester United. Certainly when I think of maybe ’96, that year we were brilliant, and possibly were better than Man United.

‘We were probably inconsistent against to so-called weaker teams, Manchester United used to beat them whereas we maybe struggled to win those games.’
