IIM graduate Milind Chandwani drives his cab late at night as the sleepy driver rests.

A recent social media post by Milind Chandwani, an IIM graduate and the founder of Camp Diaries Bengaluru, has gone viral for its unusual yet heartwarming story. Chandwani shared a video detailing an unexpected experience he had during a late-night cab ride from Bengaluru airport. He ended up driving the cab while the actual driver slept in the passenger seat.

In the post, Chandwani recounted the surreal incident that unfolded at 3 AM:

“Last night, while heading home from the airport, I was in an unexpected role—my cab driver’s driver. The driver was so sleepy that even after stopping for tea and a cigarette, he couldn’t keep his eyes open. I offered to drive, and to my surprise, he handed me the keys faster than I could say ‘Bengaluru traffic.’”

The accompanying video shows the driver reclining his seat and dozing off while Chandwani navigates the city using Google Maps.

A Mix of Emotions and Empathy

Chandwani reflected on the situation, expressing a mix of emotions. “I was glad he trusted me but sad that he had to push himself so hard to work. It was also slightly amusing how quickly he decided I was qualified to take over. I gave him a Rs 100 tip and asked for a 5-star rating in return—seemed like a fair trade!”

He ended his post with a thoughtful message about life’s unpredictability and the importance of kindness:

“Life is full of unexpected detours. Be kind, be empathetic, and maybe brush up on your driving skills. The real moral of the story? When you offer help, be ready for the other person to take you up on it.”

Reactions Online

The video has garnered over 7.5 million views, sparking a variety of reactions online. While some users found the situation humorous, others pointed out the need for better working conditions for cab drivers.

One comment read, “This is hilarious but also a wake-up call for drivers’ safety.” Another user wrote, “The trust he showed in you is heartwarming but also concerning.”

Chandwani’s act of kindness has been widely praised, with many appreciating how he turned an inconvenience into a moment of empathy.
