It has been 20 years since the Windsor Spitfires met the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.
That year, the Spitfires became the first OHL team to ever rally from a 3-0 series deficit to capture the best-of-seven series by winning Game 7 on the road.
Now, the two division rivals meet again as the West Division-champion Spitfires, who are the second seed in the Western Conference, face the seventh-seeded Greyhounds.

Windsor took four-of-six meetings in the regular season, including the last four games of the season series, while outscoring the Greyhounds 30-11 in the six games.
“It’ll be a tough test,” said Spitfires’ head coach Greg Walters, whose team finished 34 points ahead of the Greyhounds. “A really hardworking team, good coach and they play hard.”
The best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final series opens Thursday at the WFCU Centre with Game 2 on Saturday at the WFCU Centre. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
Trudell strikes gold
After seven months off due to injury and surgery, Jayden Trudell returned to the ring to capture gold at the Canada Cup in Calgary.
It’s the second year in a row Trudell has won at the event as he beat Alberta’s Quang Ngo in the 70kg final by unanimous decision after after two standing eight counts.
Earlier, Trudell, who fights out of the DogHouse Gym, beat Saskatchewan’s Khizar Hasmi by TKO in the semifinals after opening with a TKO over Manitoba’s Kai Pearson in the first round.
Warriors oust Vipers
The LaSalle Vipers’ season came to an end Sunday with a 5-2 loss at home to the Stratford Warriors.

Kade McGeen and Brendan Gouin scored for the sixth-seeded Vipers, who lost the best-of-seven series 4-0 to the third-seeded Warriors in Western Conference quarter-final play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
73’s even series
The top-seeded Essex 73’s pulled even in the Bill Stobbs Division final against the second-seeded Lakeshore Canadiens on Sunday.
The 73’s scored a 5-2 win over the Canadiens to even the best-of-seven series at 1-1 with each team now having won on the road.
Luke Sherk and Karson Beuglet each scored twice for the 73’s with Gabe Barrette netting the other goal and captain Gabe Piccolo picking up three assists.
Nicolas Roasati had both goals for the Canadiens, who were outshot 28-22.
Express in first
The Windsor Express moved into first place in the Basketball Super League by percentage points on Sunday.
The Express improved to 18-8 with a 114-105 win over the Pontiac Pharaohs at the WFCU Centre. That left the Express a few percentage points ahead of the Sudbury Five (19-9) for the league’s top spot heading into the final week of the regular season.

Markus Golder led the Express with 21 points off the bench. Tray Maddox and Latin Davis each finished with 17 points for the Express. Lydell Elmore had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Vincent Boumann added 12 points and 10 rebounds, Zavier Turner finished with 11 points and 10 assists and Sam Muldrow added 10 points for Windsor.
Lancers finish sixth
The sixth-seeded Windsor Lancers fell to the top-ranked Winnipeg Wesmen in the consolation final at the U Sports men’s volleyball championship in Brandon on Sunday.
The Lancers fell 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21. Gustavo Siquiera had seven kills for the Lancers while Darian Koskie and St. Joseph high school product Anthony Ivanovski, who was named Windsor’s player of the game, had five kills each.
The Lancers reached the consolation final after sweeping the seventh-seeded Western Mustangs 3-0 on Saturday by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-19. Windsor was bouncedto the consolation side after falling 3-0 to No. 3 Alberta on Friday in quarter-final play at the eight-team tournament by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 37-35.
