Liverpool are looking to take a major step toward automatic qualification for the knockout rounds of the Champions League when they host Real Madrid in a heavyweight fixture on Wednesday night.
This, however, will offer arguably their biggest test yet. Madrid haven’t always convinced but are the European champions after all and generally turn on the style for big nights in this particular tournament.
That said, Carlo Ancelotti’s side sit some way off the automatic spots as things stand, having already lost twice in the opening phase and were beaten by AC Milan earlier this month, and will have to do without an injured Viniciur Jr.

It’s a case of as you were for Liverpool, with Trent Alexander-Arnold unlikely to feature after missing the win at Southampton with a hamstring injury.
He has joined goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is also still sidelined with a similar problem, Diogo Jota (chest injury) and Federico Chiesa (fitness) in the treatment room.
Otherwise, they hope to have Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni and Lucas Vazquez all available after injury. Arda Guler and Dani Ceballos started against Leganes, but could drop out.
