After five years in development, Steel Seed is finally gearing up for release, and it just might be this year’s sleeper hit. Developed by the talented team at Storm in a Teacup, the game promises a gripping blend of narrative-driven adventure, fluid stealth-action gameplay, and a richly detailed world shaped by thought-provoking themes. With a striking sci-fi aesthetic and a focus on the evolving relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence, Steel Seed aims to deliver an experience that is both thrilling and deeply immersive.

Steel Seed aims to be a truly narrative-driven adventure. Carlo Ivo Alimo Bianchi draws clear inspiration from iconic sci-fi cinema, aiming to put his own spin on the genre’s conventions to craft a meaningful, impactful story. With acclaimed writer Martin Korda also contributing to the narrative and a wealth of inspirations shaping the plot, this one has real potential.

Adapting to the Situation

There are several pillars to the gameplay. The team aim to offer a complete experience that allows you to tackle situations in a dynamic manner. You can sneak up on enemies and quietly eliminate them or tackle situations head-on with the help of your robotic buddy. You will unlock abilities that develop your stealth or combat output which will further enhance your method of attack. As this was a hands-off event, I was unable to experience the gameplay, but it’s ticking all the right boxes.

As Steel Seed is a more linear experience with a runtime of around 15 to 20 hours, players can expect cinematic sequences and carefully crafted environments. The game keeps gameplay engaging with diverse traversal mechanics, including climbing and platforming. These elements seamlessly blend with combat, enabling vertical stealth kills. Steel Seed incorporates several Assassin’s Creed-inspired elements, making it ideal for fans of the franchise’s earlier stealth-focused games. This is especially true as Ubisoft moves toward RPG mechanics in recent titles.

A World Built on Destruction

In terms of the art direction, there is a distinct industrial and metallic aesthetic that tells a tale about the world. This instantly intrigues, as the environment enhances the story, revealing the conflict between humans and robots. I also learned that you can explore beyond that biome, with areas evolving and changing as you progress through the adventure.

Steel Seed is set to launch on April 10th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. With its blend of narrative-driven adventure and stealth-action gameplay, it’s shaping up to be one to watch.
