Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal want Williams, Sesko latest; Chelsea in Tel talks; Duran bid; Man Utd ‘sign’ Dorgu

Transfer news LIVE!
The January transfer window is in its final days and the Premier League’s biggest sides are building up for a grandstand finish. Arsenal continue to be in the market for a striker amid ongoing links with Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Nico Williams, but it appears teenage midfielder Sverre Nypan is the likeliest new recruit first through the door as confidence grows over an agreed deal. Wolves are expecting bids for Cunha.
Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Mathys Tel, who has told Bayern Munich that he wishes to leave before Deadline Day. The Blues saw an enquiry for the young striker rejected earlier in the window. Manchester United are ready to cash in on Chelsea-linked Alejandro Garnacho having agreed a £31.5million fee with Lecca for Patrick Dorgu. Meanwhile, Barcelona are still hoping to land Marcus Rashford on loan, and United could replace him with Christopher Nkunku.
Tottenham are working hard on securing at least one outfield signing this month, and have been linked with an audacious move for Williams, while interest in Angel Gomes and Tyler Dibling is likely to be ahead of summer switch. West Ham have made their first move to sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton. Follow the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip below!

Arsenal calls for Arsenal transfer activity – and not just a striker
08:01 , Alex Young
Mikel Arteta is eager for Arsenal to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window closes – even if they cannot sign a new striker.
Arteta has stressed the need for the Gunners to add an attacker after Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus suffered injuries.
Arsenal’s targets in that position – such as Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko – would prove difficult to sign this month.
And asked if he would be open to Arsenal adding to the squad elsewhere as a result, Arteta said: “Well, there are situations open and I always say the same.
“If we can improve the squad with players that can impact us for now, for the future, we will try to do that if it is the best thing for the club – and I stand on that.”

Tottenham working on three deals
07:47 , Alex Young
Tottenham have held talks over moves for Southampton midfielder forward Tyler Dibling and Lille’s Angel Gomes.
However, according to the Telegraph, both deals are more likely for the summer.
Dibling is currently injured for the next month or so, while Gomes is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Spurs, though, still hope to add at least one new player to the squad in the final week of the transfer window. It remains to be seen who that is, and if they will get him.

No Fenerbahce interest in Rashford
Tuesday 28 January 2025 22:26 , Matt Verri
Fenerbahce vice-president Acun Ilicali has insisted the club will not be making a move for Marcus Rashford.
Reports have suggested that the Turkish club could offer Rashford a way out of Manchester United, but Ilicali told Sky Sports: “Yesterday it was in the news that we are interested. First of all, he is a fantastic player.
“But in your team, when you have some plans, it is not logical to have two players in the same position that are too similar.
“These kinds of players need to play, play, play – and, if he comes, one of the other players would not be able to play.
“When it came in front of us, unfortunately, we said no – so there is nothing about this transfer.
“Of course, there were some rumours, but I can say very comfortably that we are not interested. But he’s a good player.”

Rashford options limited for January exit
Tuesday 28 January 2025 19:53 , Matt Verri
Marcus Rashford is increasingly linked to stay at Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim said over the weekend he would rather have his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench than Rashford, in a further sign that the forward is not in his plans.
However, The Independent report that Rashford will only leave for a club challenging for trophies and one that will keep him in the hunt for an England recall.
It’s suggested that Juventus and Barcelona are the only two options he is considering, but the Spanish side are unlikely to make a move due to their financial situation.

Tierney to make Celtic return
Tuesday 28 January 2025 18:59 , Matt Verri
Kieran Tierney has agreed a deal to return to Celtic, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.
The Arsenal left-back is out of contract at the end of the season and has been strongly linked with a move back to Scotland, having returned to fitness after a serious hamstring injury.
Tierney, who signed for Arsenal from Celtic for £25million in 2019, has now agreed a pre-contract with his former club.
That will see him join the Scottish champions in the summer, however Celtic boss Rodgers has suggested the club could push to bring forward the move.
Alex Valle, who has been at Celtic on loan from Barcelona, has had his spell in Scotland cut short, with Italian club Como said to be keen on signing the left-back.
Asked if Valle’s exit could mean Tierney joins this month instead, Rodgers said: “Ideally it would but he’s still at this moment an Arsenal player.
“I think everyone is agreed that will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand, then great.”

Gyokeres ‘top of the list’ for Man Utd
Tuesday 28 January 2025 14:51 , Alex Young
Gary Pallister says Viktor Gyokeres is “top of the list” for Manchester United this month as they look to solve their attacking woes.
“The most worrying thing about this Manchester United team is a lack of goal threat,” he told Punters Lounge. “Don’t get me wrong, Brighton are a good side and are well organised, but having no shot on target from open play for 90 minutes is concerning.
“You have 70,000 fans cheering you on and good attacking players in the squad like Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes, it’s hard to understand how they can’t see a way through.
“Ruben Amorim has said since he came through the door that we need a centre forward who is able to lead the line and Viktor Gyokeres is at the top of the list.
“Victor Osimhen is another option, whether something can be done in January remains to be seen.”

He won’t come cheap, though. The report claims Dortmund would be looking for close to €100million for a player who has already scored eleven goals and provided five assists since the start of the season.

Regarding striker targets, a decision of Mathys Tel is yet to be made, while Liam Delap would be a target for the summer.
Scholes says Rashford deserves to be banished from dressing room
Tuesday 28 January 2025 11:16 , Alex Young
Paul Scholes feels Marcus Rashford has “let a lot of people down” and says the forward should be “banished” from the Manchester United dressing room.
“You think of the young players coming through the team, think of (Alejandro) Garnacho, they’re looking up to people like Marcus now – he’s 27 years of age, and he’s clearly not training properly.
“I remember years ago when I told the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) I didn’t want to play in that Arsenal game… he said to me ‘the worst thing you did is let your team-mates down’, and that really stuck with me because I wasn’t really thinking about that – and now I think Marcus Rashford, he’s doing exactly the same.
“OK, he’s not refusing to play, but in the way he’s behaving and the way he’s training, in a way he is saying I don’t want to be involved with these.
“So I think the fact of letting your team-mates down in that dressing room – he should be banished from the dressing room really. If he’s in and around that and young people are seeing that as an example, the sooner he’s gone the better.”

If that bid is unsuccessful, United could turn attention to bringing the 21-year-old back to club as they can trigger a clause worth about £15m.
The Athletic report that Carreras is not expecting to move, but a lot could happen before Deadline Day.

Chelsea and Aston Villa transfer talks amid Jhon Duran interest
Tuesday 28 January 2025 09:45 , Alex Young
Aston Villa are in talks with Chelsea over a deal for Axel Disasi, but a move for Joao Felix appears more complicated at this stage, writes Malik Ouzia.
Disasi is out of favour at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are open to letting him leave the club this month. Villa also have interest in Felix, but Chelsea would want a significant fee for a player they paid around £45million to sign from Atletico Madrid.
Villa would likely have trouble funding that kind of deal without selling first. Striker Jhon Duran appears the club’s most saleable asset but it remains to be seen whether any suitors would meet Villa’s valuation this month.
The Blues have previously been linked with Duran and are interested in Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 08:34 , Alex Young

However, Sky Sports now report that Napoli will resume discussions with United this week. Chelsea are said to be monitoring the situation.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 08:18 , Alex Young
It is not considered a real possibility that Jhon Duran leaves Aston Villa before Monday’s deadline.
The Athletic report that Unai Emery’s preference for a lone striker means the tussle between Ollie Watkins and Duran is likely to end with one leaving – and the latter is attracting plenty of interest.
A £57million bid from West Ham has been rejected, with the club wanting close to £80m.
Villa’s interest in Joao Felix gives Chelsea the edge. The Blues have long been interested in Duran having previously failed to sign him.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 08:01 , Alex Young

Barcelona still hold Marcus Rashford hope
Tuesday 28 January 2025 07:43 , Alex Young

Rashford at the weekend faced another blow to his desire to continue playing for Manchester United as manager Ruben Amorim said he would rather put his goalkeeper coach on the bench.
Rashford has not played since the middle of December and has rejected moves to Saudi Arabia and Serie A. It seems that Barca are Rashford’s preferred suitors despite their difficulties in terms of getting deals done.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the LaLiga giants are still in contact over Rashford, but need Ansu Fati to leave first to raise funds.

Chelsea have a clear opportunity to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.
According to Football.London, the Blues’ striker target has never been closer to leaving despite Villa’s asking price of £80million.
Duran has been tipped to push for the move having been playing second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, and has turned down overtures from Saudi Arabia to remain in a competitive league.

A big few days ahead.

Arsenal to benefit from Sesko’s ‘gentleman’s agreement’
Tuesday 28 January 2025 07:01 , Alex Young
Arsenal’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko will be boosted by a “gentleman’s agreement” the striker has.
According to CaughtOffside, Sesko and RB Leipzig have agreed to part ways in the summer should his “achievable” asking price be met.
That’s good news for the Gunners, but not so much this month with the club in desperate need of a new striker.
Former journalist Charles Watts said: “Sesko still feels like the most likely one for me I have to say. His decision to stay at Leipzig in the summer and sign a new deal did not put Arsenal off. In fact it’s a decision we know they understood, whilst obviously being disappointed.
“The belief is that there is a gentleman’s agreement between Sesko and Leipzig that he could leave this summer for an amount that would certainly be achievable for Arsenal.
“So right now it feels like that will be the route they will try and go down. The big challenge, however, will be convincing Sesko that he will get plenty of game time should he decide to make the move, something they were unable to do last summer.
Arsenal to beat Man City to Nypan signature
Tuesday 28 January 2025 06:56 , Alex Young
Arsenal are confident they have won the race to sign Sverre Nypan.

However, The Independent report that Arsenal have made progress in recent days, and it is believed that Rosenborg are willing to do a deal with them.
Tottenham triple deal
Tuesday 28 January 2025 06:54 , Alex Young
Tottenham have held talks over moves for Southampton midfielder forward Tyler Dibling and Lille’s Angel Gomes.
However, according to the Telegraph, both deals are more likely for the summer.
Dibling is currently injured for the next month or so, while Gomes is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Spurs, though, still hope to add at least one new player to the squad in the final week of the transfer window. It remains to be seen who that is, and if they will get him.

‘No way back’ for Marcus Rashford at Man United
Monday 27 January 2025 21:05 , Matt Verri
Rio Ferdinand believes there is “no way back” for Marcus Rashford at Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim said after United’s win over Fulham on Sunday that he would rather have his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach in his matchday squad than Rashford, referencing his performances in training.
Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the former United defender said: “If I was that player that the manager said that about, my heart, my pride, my ego – embarrassment.
“For someone to question your application, to question (whether) you’re going out there and giving 100 per cent for your team, (suggesting) that you’re going to slack off and you’re taking shortcuts…
“We all have days off or moments when we’re not performing well, lacking confidence, but effort isn’t really one of the things I would want to be hearing a manager say is lacking in my makeup.
“That’s a damning comment, because I think he knows what the reaction is after that comment. He’s not saying that without thinking, ‘Where does this go after?’ There’s really no way back for Marcus after that, I don’t think, with that type of comment.
“You’re looking at it and going, ‘He (Amorim, who took charge in November) has only been there a short bit of time and he’s actually straight away gone, he’s pulled out the nine-millimetre revolver and just gone bang’. There’s no way back from that.”

The same Telegraph report says that Spurs are trying to get at least one deal over the line before the January window slams shut next Monday night.

But TBR Football now report that Arsenal are confident of beating main rivals City to a huge transfer coup, with former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi also expected to join from Real Sociedad in the summer as part of Mikel Arteta’s midfield regeneration plan to cast doubt on the Emirates Stadium futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
Man Utd to submit new Patrick Dorgu bid today
Monday 27 January 2025 13:06 , George Flood
Manchester United are certainly not giving up on their pursuit of Patrick Dorgu.
The Red Devils are believed to have thus far seen two bids for the Danish left-back, 20, rejected by Serie A side Lecce.
However, a third approach is expected this week that should get them closer to the overall €40m package being demanded.
According to the Daily Mail, a revised offer for Dorgu will be submitted by United today.
If that fails, it has been suggested that United could exercise their £15m buy-back option on Alvaro Fernandez at Benfica.
Nuno Mendes, Milos Kerkez, Tyrick Mitchell and Rayan Ait-Nouri have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim seeks to address his left-back problem.

Pep Guardiola has said that Manchester City are hopeful of keeping their young midfielder, who scored a hat-trick in the recent 8-0 FA Cup drubbing of Salford before netting again in last weekend’s 6-0 demolition of Ipswich in the Premier League and coming off the bench against PSG.
But that resolve looks set to be tested by Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen, whom Fabrizio Romano report have now made an official approach for McAtee.
The reigning Bundesliga champions are said to have presented an initial loan offer including a buy option as they seek to replace the injured Martin Terrier.
Arsenal still ‘dreaming’ of Alexander Isak signing
Monday 27 January 2025 09:49
Alexander Isak remains Arsenal’s “dream” striker transfer target, according to reports.
The Swedish international is making a convincing case for being the best forward currently operating in the Premier League after his quick-fire first-half brace in the 3-1 comeback Premier League win at struggling Southampton on Saturday took his tally for the season across all competitions for Newcastle to 19 goals in just 25 appearances.
Arsenal have long been linked with Isak in their pursuit of a high-profile new striker, though the better he gets the more difficult a deal would appear to be.
Fabrizio Romano says the former Real Sociedad star remains the Gunners’ dream target in attack, though he reiterates that Newcastle will not be selling in this window.

He adds that Dorgu – also wanted by Napoli – has already agreed personal terms over a switch to Old Trafford.

The Camp Nou is believed to be the England forward’s dream next destination as he pursues a new challenge away from Manchester United following more criticism from manager Ruben Amorim, under whom he has not played since the middle of December.
But having rejected moves to Saudi Arabia and Serie A, it seems that Barca are Rashford’s preferred suitors despite their difficulties in terms of getting deals done.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the LaLiga giants are still in contact over Rashford, but need Ansu Fati to leave first after he was left as an unused substitute again for Sunday night’s 7-1 demolition of Valencia.
The former Brighton loanee has struggled with injury this term and head coach Hansi Flick believes he wants to stay put.

But they could have good news over England midfielder Gomes, whom GiveMeSport claim is keen to join Spurs over the likes of former club Manchester United, Newcastle and West Ham.
The 24-year-old has been playing in France with Lille since 2020, though could be on the move back across the Channel in the summer.

The Serie A club’s president, Sticchi Damiani, has now spoken out publicly on the transfer saga – insisting his club are trying to “resist” having to sell a prized asset in Dorgu.
“There are a series of situations in progress to complete the squad,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“We are trying to resist, as is logical, because it is in our interest to keep the players who are protagonists of this group.
“So far, our idea is to not sell anyone in January.”

According to Fijaches, Arsenal have now launched a major offer for the 21-year-old worth €70m (£58.7m).
Amorim casts further doubt on Rashford future at Man United
Sunday 26 January 2025 23:27 , Matt Verri
Ruben Amorim said he will play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach before picking a player that “does not give the maximum”, as he criticised Marcus Rashford’s work ethic in training.
It was the Portuguese manager’s strongest answer yet on why he continues not to pick Rashford.
The England forward has made no appearances and been named in the squad just once in Manchester United’s last 11 matches in all competitions.
Rashford again did not feature on Sunday night as United laboured to a 1-0 win at Fulham despite another uninspiring performance.
“It is always the same reason,” Amorim explained.
When probed as to what that reason is, he replied: “The reason is the training. The reason is what I think a footballer should do in training [and] in life. If things do not change, I will not change.
“It is the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum and do the right things, we can use every player.
“And you can see today on the bench, we missed a bit of pace to go, to change the game. I will put [Jorge] Vital [on the pitch] before I put a player that does not give the maximum. I will not change in that department.”
